What's Your Plan

I personally love when books are gracious enough to leave space for the explicit purpose of note leaving in their pages.

Commonly miss shelved in the fiction section The Zombie Survival Guide,  is an excellent guide to surviving the inevitable zombie Apocalypse. Written by Max Brooks, the comedy genius Mel Brooks' son, the book includes tips on how to cut your hair to best stay safe, and the best means of transportation depending on where you live, and a section for the reader to keep an Outbreak Journal.

May The AACR Be With You
The best kind of notes you find in books are the kind you know you haven't found alone, and have inspired others to respond.
This hilarious gem was found in a library cataloguing guide called AACR2. It is somewhat of a dry read and so I wouldn't really recommend it for a night in with a good book, but if you're a library geek like myself and really would like to see it, you might be able to ask at your local library, they just may have a copy laying around.
Finding this made my inner geek snort with laughter!

Artistic Flare

Sometimes words on the page inspire art on the mind.

This next post is a small one, it's of a picture I found in an Anthology titled A New Anthology Canadian Literature in English. Within this book one can find hundreds of poems and short stories written by many great Canadian authors from the 1770's all the way to the 1990's.

Me, Love, and Klosterman*

Yes dearest readers even I am guilty of the sin of writing in my books.

This next book is called Sex, Drugs, And Cocoa Puffs*: a Low Culture Manifesto, by the future Mr. Me, who also goes by the name Chuck Klosterman. Inside its pages are many different pop culture themed essays, and some magazine articles, written by Klosterman on subjects that very from; why we as a society look to SIMS for the meaning of our existence, to how "Saved by the Bell" is an excellent example of how real life relationships are conceived and evolve, all with a decidedly cooky comedic and candid flare that the author is known for.

In the book the man-that-will-marry-me- some-day (he just doesn't know it yet), asked a series of questions that he would ideally get to ask people before he could love them... I of course felt the need to answer them.

WARNING: The following may or may not contain sappiness

To give a child the gift of a toy is to give them a smile. To give a child the gift of a book is to give them the world through love, knowledge, and imagination.

I found the following message in the classic children's book by Dr. Seuss, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. The book is part of the "I Can Read It All By Myself" beginners book series. This book is a fun read for any small children and uses rhyming to help teach children colours and numbers.

We may never know who Tyler is, but at least we know (and he knows), his mommy loves him.

Too Much Information
Books with notes in them that have nothing to do with the story can at times be the funniest.
Misery by Stephen King is one of my all time favourite books. It's the story of an author who gets into a horrible car accident and is saved by his number one fan... the problem is who will save him from her?

Because I like this book so much my friends and family tend to buy me copies of this book when ever they find it. This copy of the book was bought by a friend of mine at a garage sale, when I found the note written inside I knew this would become my favorite copy!
The censored part is a depiction between a man and a woman and the note reads: "Guess who Joe, thanks for the use of this book, as you can see I enjoyed it"

People write books to tell us so much about the world on every subject imaginable. What happens when the book itself tells us about the people that read it? I bring to you "Tales From the Margins", a blog about funny, interesting, and at times philosophical things I have found written in the margins of books.
